Under a lot of snow in Milan from February 14th to 18th took place PLAST 06 the 14th International Plastics and Rubber Fair, in an area of 65.545 m2, with 3.000 machines in exhibit and 1551 exhibitors from 50 countries. According to Mr. Claudio Celata, General Manager of ASSOCOMAPLAST that organizes the exhibit, the fair offers the visitors from the raw material to the final product. The sector of machines for the plastics industries is the only one in which the Italian industry is at the top of the world classification, and this sector in Italy grew 3,2% in 2004, reaching a total value of 3,87 billion euros, corresponding to 13,4% of the world production. According to Riccardo Comerio, president of ASSOCOMAPLAST, the sector of machines for plastics in Italy is the second most important in the world classification right after Germany, but before USA, China and Japan, with 1,5 million employees, with a production for Europe of 160 billion Euros/year. The exhibit presented from the manufacturers of machines for plastic processing to the raw materials and additives, and manufacturers of products and components. According to Claudio Celata it is important the use of machines that reduce the energy consumption, and on the other way also the reuse of plastics through the recycle in order to reduce the consumption of virgin plastic. Four themes were the main in the various seminars during the event: energy conservation, nanotechnologies, recycling and environmental compatibility and sustainability of the plastic products. The Italian exports of plastic machines had an increase of 2 to 3 % per year in the last 3 years.
